Henry lors d'un tournoi Henry est nommé « Défenseur de la Foi » par le Pape, pour le récompenser de sa dénonciation de Martin Luther. Sa sœur, la princesse Margaret, épouse le vieux roi du Portugal, mais se précipite dans les bras de Charles Brandon. Le désintérêt croissant du roi pour la reine et son obsession pour un héritier légitime amènent Henry à rechercher une solution radicale, tandis que son désir pour Anne Boleyn s’intensifie.
